MAKE A PHOTO-BOOK: workshop i bokdesign for fotografer

We invite everyone who are looking to create professional looking photo-books of their work, to join this class. Our instructor Jonathan will covering all aspects of photo-book creation. You will learn the principals of great layout and design and apply them to your own book project. This is a hands on workshop and our goal is that you leave our workshop with the first mockup of your photo-book, ready to order.

For this workshop we will be using BLURB as our print-on-demand publishing platform. Jonathan will teach you the Blurb easy-to-use design program. Students who are familiar with professional layout software, such as Adobe InDesign, will also be accommodated.

SAGA has a large photo-book library which includes books by publishing houses, self published books, and print-on-demand books. We will utilise this resource in the class by taking a close look at some of our books and discuss in depth the different design choices made and why they work. Each student are also asked to bring their favorite photo-book to the workshop, and we will use all this and draw inspirations into the students own projects.

We will spend a lot of time on how to build a book, and cover in detail typography, page layout, image sequencing, front and back matter, color management, image preparation, choosing the cover image and cover design.

Students should bring 40-60 digital photographs, as well as print outs (postcard size) of their images, along with any written material for their book projects. Students are also expected to bring their own lap top to work on. And should have Bridge (Photoshop), Lightroom or any other similar editing software + booksmart or bookwright (www.blurb.com) installed on their computer.

ABOUT JONATHAN LAURENCE:
Jonathan is a multimedia designer, consultant, and educator who has worked internationally with a diverse range of companies, organizations, and individuals. He has served as Media Director to the Camden International Film Festival for more than 10 years, and also leads digital media and creativity workshops at a variety of institutions and art centers around the world. In 2014, he joined Center for Maine Contemporary Art (CMCA) as Creative Director.
Jonathan has received The Raising Star Award from the Palm Beach Photographic Center, and is listed as one of the top 60 most collectable artist in Maine.

He has been capturing and chronicling the scenes, people, and moments that make up daily life for nearly two decades. His self-documentation began long before the practice was ubiquitous. Being an early adopter of new technologies and social media platforms, he has a massive understanding and experience of how social media works, which makes him a sought after consultant for businesses looking to crack the code of marketing via different social media outlets.

Additionally, he gets a kick out of eating and cooking good food, travel, adventure, design, films, art, music, looking, making, assembling, learning, and generally anything positive.

STED:
Workshoppen foregår på SAGA Senter for Fotografi, Inderøy. SAGA har en oase for kreative sjeler, med lyse fine arbeidslokaler, hjemmehyggelig atmosfære, deilig mat, flott natur rett utenfor døren, og rolig overnatting i enkelt eller delt dobbeltrom. WORKSHOP AVGIFT:
NOK 6.900,- (depositum NOK 2.900,-). Dette inkluderer ikke overnatting på SAGA Hotell, middag, og reise. Frokost og lunsj er inkludert i hotell prisen.
